10.19.05

Dear Friends –

With corporate dominance of nearly every natural foods store in the area, it can be difficult to know where to spend your hard-earned dollars. RMAD has long encouraged its members and constituents to support the Boulder Co-op Market, the only full-service, vegetarian, natural foods store and restaurant in the area. However, due to a history of poor management since its inception, the co-op is facing serious financial trouble and seeking other ways to bring in money. Some customers and a key player or two believe that bringing in meat is a better way to make money, rather than growing the membership base by improving customer service, doing more membership recruitment, offering benefits, promotions, increasing the quality and volume of marketing etc.

If you shop at the co-op, please tell the staff that you shop there because it is vegetarian! If you are not a member, please join so your voice will be heard and so you will gain leverage within the organization. Please email the co-op at
coopinfo@boulder.coop and tell them how upset you will be if they add animal carcasses to their shelves. If you are interested in attending a meeting to work further on this issue, please email JillB@rmad.org and she’ll be in touch with more information. We don’t have to apologize for being vegetarians, and the coop shouldn’t either!

Next week we will have a full report from Dawne English’s RMAD-sponsored trip to New Orleans. We’ll have photographs and accounts of how Dawne helped out in a New Orleans shelter, assisting rescued animals in need of care and attention.

RMAD’s blanket drive is on! This collection benefits animals residing at area shelters and sanctuaries. We have a few options for getting the blankets to the animals, including a drop-off point at Three Little Figs (2793 Iris Ave, NW Corner of 28th & Iris, Monday-Saturday 11-7), and at the downtown Denver Ramada Inn (1150 E Colfax Ave.) If anyone wants to donate dog & cats treats and toys, shelters are always looking for those as well. You can also call or email Steve and Tami Conley (303 661 3954,
TJC1BC@aol.com) to arrange for a pick-up in the Denver/Boulder metro area.

Three Little Figs tells us they are going to be receiving a special delivery of Ronald’s legendary VEGAN donuts from Las Vegas! Reserve yours now (deadline is Wednesday, October 26th) to guarantee you don’t miss out. Order anywhere from 1 donut to several dozen (they keep very well in the freezer). No need to prepay, just be
forewarned that donuts not claimed by 4 PM on Monday October 31st will go on sale to the highest bidder, unless prior arrangements have been made. Stop by, call or email (2793 Iris Ave., Boulder, (303) 447-5934,
info@threelittlefigs.com).

Volunteers! We are still looking for help obtaining high-quality items for our live and silent auctions. Please email
DonnaM@rmad.org if you would like to help.

Chris and Donna
