Happy Spring, Everyone.

An urgent email to the RMAD office last week expressed grave concern for a goose with an arrow through his leg at Littleton’s Robert F. Clement Park. RMAD went into action coordinating a rescue for this poor animal and volunteer Dave Hatch has been visiting the park on a regular basis. However, the goose has literally taken volunteers on the “wild goose chase” for which they are famous, and has thus far evaded capture. We’re researching other rescue options and will be sure to keep you informed.

As well, the RMAD cell phone hasn’t fared so well after a lengthy swim during the goose pursuit. We’re looking for a replacement, preferably with some sort of calling plan or established pay-as-you-go agreement. If you can help, please contact Chris or call the RMAD office at 303-449-4422.

The RMAD office has been busy as usual, tending to inquiries related to all things animals. Typical springtime issues are those involving rats, mice, birds moving into homes, and other ways to humanely approach wildlife management. Kudos to everyone who chooses patience and compassion over extermination.

Our condolences go out to everyone affected by the recent dog food contamination. The tragedy has struck close to home, and we’re doing our best to assist those who have lost their beloved companion animals. This massive food recall has also raised a lot of attention for the quality of such “pet” foods, as well as the conditions in which factory farmed animals are raised. If you’re looking for the healthiest, most humane alternative for your companion animals, please consider Evolution!

A slew of events are on the horizon. This weekend offers both the weekly fur protest in Denver and the HEALTH Mountain Potluck in Evergreen. Next Tuesday will be the seal slaughter protest in Denver. Following the April 1 HEALTH Potluck will be a talk by Victor Tsou, Regional Outreach Coordinator for Vegan Outreach.

RMAD is supporting Carol Adams’ visit to CU, brought to you by the fine young folks with PAW. This April 16 event is not to be missed!

Also coming up is the April 21 Jefferson County Bar Association’s “largest adoption event in Colorado history.” This metro-wide animal adoption event will feature more than forty rescue groups and all kinds of critters, from hamsters to horses, all looking for loving homes.

More details for all of these events can be found on the RMAD Calendar. Please contact the RMAD office with any questions.A lot going on!

Thanks for staying involved. Have a great weekend.

Dear Friends:

With the advent of spring, both people and animals are rising from their semi-hibernations. You may notice prairie dog colonies coming to life, including the animals who rely on them for food and shelter. However, prairie dogs are perpetually threatened by rampant development and untruths about the nature of this valuable, fascinating animal.

The public consistently appeals to RMAD for help in these situations, and we do our best to guide and support them. In the past month, we’ve assisted with some 20 threatened colonies, ranging from Boulder, Colorado to Lawton, Oklahoma. We’re continually evaluating our strategies and techniques.

In addition to being a valuable resource for prairie wildlife advocates, RMAD continues to be a clearinghouse for the spectrum of animal issues. We’ve recently assisted with sick horses, unhealthy animals at a Colorado puppy mill, finding homes for companion animals, legal help with wildlife conservation, and much more.

A big thank you to Lynne, Torie, Chelsea, Emilie and Fernando for volunteering at our mailing party. With their help, RMAD was able to get a 2200-piece mailing out the door without a hitch. RMAD volunteers continue to leverage every dollar donated, ensuring our effectiveness in advocating for all animals along the Front Range.

Please don’t forget to slow down in wildlife crossings and near prairie dog colonies! And don’t forget to move your clocks forward this Sunday.

Thanks for reading.
